I've got dresser duals, and I have been thinking about changing. I would love to go with a Thunderheader, but I just can't get over the look of a 2-1 on a bagger. I might look into the power duals from V&H,but after looking at that dyno sheet,it didn't help much. The sound is great with the duals, and the heat is non existent.
I went with the V&H Power Duals and I couldn't be happier! There is a definite increase in performance that you can feel out the gate. Here is a pic for you to see the setup up close.

I believe you can get the thunderheader with a ghost pipe
Thanks for the info, hougz.
Do you have a 96" or 103" on your SG?
96" for now. Going to a 107 in the spring. I love the sound of TDs, but went with the PDs for the torque. Fuel Moto and Fullsac make some very nice replacement headers that fit under stock heat shields.
I also agree 2:1 is the king for power and torque. I almost pulled the trigger on a Fat Cat, but since my bags and fender have dual exhaust cut outs, I would need a ghost pipe. Dr V-Twin quoted me $500 for the ghost pipe and I almost flipped out of my chair. $500 was WAY too much for a ghostie in my opinion. Add that to the $900 for the pipe and that was just too much for me to justify. That, and I wanted it in black and I heard the black finish on them doesn't hold up for crap.
For those of you who have either system, what are the pros and cons?
I've seen several posts about a slight loss of power (low end) with the true duals, some riders consider it unnoticeable.
What are the benefits of the X-pipe system? Any regrets or disappointment after installing either one?
....I chose the Dresser Duals for looks, sound and heat reduction. Very pleased. Added Monster Rounds and I hear both of them! The Power or X type look is growing on me and looks great on some bikes but not for me on mine (FLHRC). As for any loss in low end torque...well I'm not sure if I feel it to be honest, but if there is a "trade off", I plan to add 255 or 254e cams and call it a day.
SC
take it from a guy who just went through this , had rinehart full true dual with 4 inch rineharts , was very unhappy at loss of bottome end tourque, my driving style is always on the low end running at 3000rpm. i tossed the Rinehart TD and have Vance and hines x pipe and VH slipons, they are amazing, love the sound and power and tourque to burn. Im a huge VH fan now , they work perfect for me . just my opinion though
