Matter of fact I just got off the ph with the salesman that sold me the bike , I have a 2010 and when they sold it to me the insurance guy says the existing warranty will expire in nov this will give you a addional 2 yr coverage . I just asked the salesman why they said that because I still have another yr coverage , comes with a two yr warranty not a one yr ,,,, she was backing up . Then I remindered her about the agreement on the upgrades that were to be covered un warranty as the work was done by harley , she said if the work was done when the bike was bought , told her she knows I bought it second hand and from one of their employees , said she will talk to the insurance man and call me back . I did tell her I will cancel the extended warranyt though and want my money back will see what happens ,,, aint nothing but a bunch of crooks .

It's amazing how this kind of request seems to solve issues.
Good luck.
I even told them that my wife saw that our old bike was still in there and that she even stated that we should trade the new bike back for our old one and go somewhere else!!!!!!!! That and pro rate the ESP and go from there!!! So hopefully this is what sparked their decision to come pick it up and look at it.

When I purchased my bike the finance lady asked me if I wanted an extended warranty, I told her no I would probably do something to the bike that would void the warranty anyway. She didn't blink or asked any questions and said ok. Bike is stock now but Stage 1 with a after market head pipe is in the future.. I am thinking after about 5k miles, its going to be hard to wait that long but I want to make sure there are no factory defects I might get stuck with. I don't think my dealer would stick me with anything but you never know. They danced all around my mod list vs warranty questions when I ask, giving you the feeling they would take care of you if they done the work without saying it out right.

I will attempt to repeat exactly what the customer service told me about doing a simple Stage 1 on my 2009 EGC.

1) If I put an aftermarket tuning on my bike this will void the power train warranty.

2) Also, don't assume if the tuner is sold by a dealer that the power train warranty is good.

3) The tuner has to have a stop sign icon or a traffic sign icon next to it, too not void the power train warranty.

4) If the tuner has a checkerd flag for race next to it, this product will void the power train warranty.

I do not like it, but is what he said. Please call them and verify that if you like.

And, maybe I understood all of this wrong.

Thanks

So how about doing your stage 1 without having the ecm flashed, use a powercommander instead.

Then if your motor blows up, take off the powercommander, put your oem air filter and mufflers back on? Covered.

I never get an extended warranty on anything. You are partially paying in advance for a failure you probably won't have. Put all the money for all the extended warranties you could buy for all the stuff we do buy in the bank and you are then self insured and you get the interest on top of it. If I bought an extended warranty on everything I buy that offers an extended warranty, I could probably buy another bike with that dough. We all could.

Thanks to all of you guys who have taking the time to comment.

I read where some of you are having warranty issues. Hope everything works out for the benefit of the owner.

I didn't really know a whole lot about Harley Davidson's when I purchased it back in 2009.
All I really knew, was that Harley was THE BIKE to own. I could just she myself on one. That alone made me feel good.

There is just something about riding a Harley that makes you feel good and proud. All my Harley friends were saying, ha man, you need to put some mufflers on your bike. So, it would sound like a Harley. You know, the Harley image. It's all good.

After hearing all of this for about 3 year. I decided to look into it. I did a little research and found what I wanted. Something a little different from all the others' .

Then when I found out the mods were going to void my warranty. It just disappointed me more than anything. I was not really mad.

So, all of this stuff about making it your own. Just seem to fade away. Sort of made me feel bad.

I am over all of that and moving on to plan B.

I hope all of you can relate.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Hopefully plan B is to dump the warranty, reclaim some money back, and do the mods you want.

Too bad it doesnt work that way. I use to have a Cobra and my buddy at Ford said the factory reps would look for how many scratches were on the ecm plugs connectors or look at the blower drive for marks showing they were removed. Also they can look at the parameter readings and see if they were exceeded for a stock ecm. The ecms have a memory that tell the truth. They can and will look to get out of a claim if its going to get expensive for them, as mentioned before if the customer gives the dealer a hard time, they put you down on a list and the factory will not cover anything.

The ECM doesn't know that there's a Power Commander. It's connected downstream, receives the normal signals from the ECM and overrides them.

I would like to see a work order for a SEST install and a dyno tune performed by a HD dealer, clearly mentioning that this will void HD's warranty, and signed by the customer. Since the w/o doesn't mention it, the dealer is still on the hook.

In any case, even if this was true the only thing that the mfg wouldn't cover is the engine. There are lots of things that can go wrong on a bike besides the engine. Stuff like tranny, compensator, starter, electronics, brakes, radio, suspension, frame, electrical, etc.. You name it.

don't ever buy extended warranties...huge ripoff!!! 2 year overlap in coverage????? Oh if you change anything nothing is covered????? Not happening ever to me. I would rather pay an idept. more and have it done right with GOOD parts that I specify. They keep putting in the same bad design parts that already failed - example, chinese bearings that keep failing, mine failed twice, first under warranty, then the warranty repair/part failed and did over a $1000.00 in damage, which they said was MY problem...NOT. Over the years I would easily have spent over $10,000.00 on these useless things offered me, instead it's in my bank account, ok, so I spent it on beer, but GOOD beer!!! LOL Ride safe!
