Bullshit
If you're gonna ride it 20,000 miles a year, a lot of stuff can break, and ESP might be a good thing to have.
The price of the ESP bought when the bike is new takes into account the fact that there's a mfg warranty running concurrently. Buy the ESP just before the mfg expires and you'll see the difference in price.
Third, if you change anything, you're still covered. Only a problem directly attributable to the modification won't be covered, and it's HD's responsibility to prove that the mod created the problem.
Fourth, do you know how much a wheel + tire + labor to replace them costs? Almost $1,000. ESP for 5 years including wheel and tire coverage is around $1,500. Hit a pothole and you'll be glad you have the ESP. I know, you can file a claim with your motorcycle insurance too. Mine has a $500 deductible for comprehensive. There's no deductible for wheel and tire ESP claims.
Fifth, ESP is an insurance. If you don't think you need it, fine, then don't buy it. ....... and don't buy health insurance or motorcycle insurance either because it's the same principle.
They all make money so they're all rip-offs, right?
Me, I have a 5-year ESP and it's a piece of mind which costs less than beer.
If I decide to sell my bike, I'm sure that a buyer will prefer to buy my bike with an extended warranty than yours without one, all things being equal.
I'm not trying to convince you, just showing you the other side of the coin.
Take it easy.
Article is abour cars, but pretty much same principle for scoots - the only one's who make out are the dealership + warranty policy "writer."
