just traded in my 07 roadglide for a 12 roadglide ultra i love this bike except for the fuel milage my 07 i would get 50mpg all day long no matter how i road it pretty much like i stole it. now my new 12 roadglide ultra ive been avg 38mpg and thats with new exhaust, screaming eagle race tuner and super sucker air cleaner pretty mush the same set up that i had on my 07. question is is this normal for this bike and if i change out the head pipes will it improve?
My 02 Ultra had a stage one...got about 36 mpg. Traded it in on a 2010 Ultra. It is bone stock, except for V&H slip ons. I get 36-38 in town, 38-40 on the highway.
Has been tuned or just the generic map? I have a 2011 RGU and never get under 44mpg no matter how hard I ride and if I keep it at 60-70mph I get close to 50mph. I am running Supetrapp supermeg 2.1, se air cleaner and TTS mastertune.
I have a 2011 ultra limited and get between 42-45mpg and this is 2 up. I have seen it dip to 38mpg but that depends on a lot of stop and go. If interstate I may get 46-48. My bike is stock. Are you comparing a 96 vs 103. This may make a little diff. Just thought I'd offer my 2 cts...
as the motor wears in, mileage will increase slightly- less friction in the motor, it all adds up.
new bike is a bigger motor, hauling a bit more weight and wind resistance with tour pak.
but the tuning* is perhaps not as good as can be.
my 09 FLHTC 96" I am right at 43 MPG riding at 65~70 tested over thousands of miles. Big sucker/tuned supertrapps/XIEDS
tuning is the mystery, can't see it...but IF the tuning is overly lean, the ECM could be retarding ignition timing to prevent knock and ping. this along can greatly reduce MPG ( and power).
I would suggest doing a quick comparison-- find a Pal with Xieds, and put them on your bike--- they plug right in- and see if the power and MPG come up--- if so, then you can deduce that the tuner is too lean.
and you can find a way to solve that, or get your own set of Xieds, $125
( my riding Pal get identical mileage as I do, measured over thousands of miles- 2011 Limited 103", ventilator, V&H header with X pipe, monster ovals, SERT)
