I'd prefer if my bike was never touched by anyone... Period. It's either exactly as it was from the factory in every respect, or if not, the change or modification or repair is familiar to me because I did it.
Yup exactly my sentiment....anxiety is a good word.....I asked them if I can put the switch on and they said no they would have to do since they have to safety check it blah blah blah. I didn't ask to buy one though and that's the route I'm going with......I would have to take my right bag off, cuz I you sure as hell can't risk them knocking the damn thing off their workbench! Too much BS....give me the switch... I got this is what I say!

Cool

So maybe Insurance for some is a concern , others not..

Either way, Harley / Ford / GM who ever, once a DOT issues a Recall, it has to be done.

No waviers , no pass go, sucks I know but but that is the law of the land not just state to state...

I love to talk to any Harley dealer that says otherwise...

I personaly would never but a bike after running the VIN Number and finding out no recalls were ever done on the bike.....

Wait a minute, they're going to forcibly handcuff and restrain me while they install the switch? I think your dealer is engaging in a bit of hyperbole and needs to be beamed up to the mothership for a new prime directive. Also, if its that damned important, why hasn't the mothership seen fit to send me a recall notice?

It has to be done? I'm not sure what you mean by that.

What has to be done is the manufacturer has to make an attempt to notify owners once the recall is initiated. There are laws in-place defining what steps are required in making that attempt.

But there are no laws requiring that an owner of an affected item has to follow through with having the repairs made, that I am aware of.

The manufacturer must also offer the repair/replacement/whatever at no cost to the owner for the life of the item (ten years from date of first purchase in the case of a HD).

And for all you extended warranty proponents out there, consider this... For absolutely free, you can have an extended warranty for ten years from your bike's date of first purchase on your brake switch... but only if you choose not to have it replaced now. Kinda funny how that works heh?

For me, that means if my brake switch ever fails, HD will be obligated to replace it for free until September 2020.

Like I've said previously, everyone makes up their own mind and as long as you feel good with your decision, that's all that matters.

I simply prefer not to have anyone else work on my bike if it's at all possible - so I'll wait.

There's been at least one crash attributed to the switch, but not proven that I know of.

Even tho someone has apparently already won that lottery, I'm not going to be the second one.

OK, so we felt bad about that--- then the accident investigators showed us the invoices from his truck work with showed over and over warnings about not for use on public roads

if his 4 runner were stock:

the bumpers would have absorbed impact

the volvo would not have been able to get under his truck

his big ol' tires climbed on top of the volvo's hood and his high center of gravity started him rolling

suspension parts broke

brakes were judged to be undersized for the wheels

Wow, classic. Reminds me of this article:

I'm not sure what recalls have to do with insurance but if there is a recall on my UC I would think it wise to have it fixed. I've already been stranded twice.
