Every '06 and older HD touring bike I have been on has it. Seems like rental bikes are a bit louder ( gee, wonder why ) but my old roadie had it, and my new ultra does too. I have run synthetic gear oil in mine since day one, and they both were very tolerable. You really have to be tuned in to hear it. Matter of fact, with my new engine build, I cant say that I have heard it. Probably due to more engine noise, but facts are facts......I would say that most all, if not all of them have some 4th gear whine.....

I have an 06 SG and it had the 4th gear noise. I took it in for the 1,000 mile service and they said the gear was defective and replaced it. It was covered under warranty. Once replaced I have not had any problems with noise.

My 06 SG makes the same noise in 4th. I was told by the dealer that they all do it. I've gotten used to it....almost enjoy it. It's a nice whine.......I think!
