Default 103 vs 96 heat

Just bought a 2012 UC Limited. I'm coming off a 2010 SG. My SG was kept bone stock, save an SE supertrapp slip on. Heat was quite tolerable. Up here in Maine we don't get really hot weather that often and traffic is also not a real burden typically. In any case, should I expect noticeably more heat from the 103? Is a stage 1 upgrade a must. My only plans are to slip on some V&H Monster ovals. Thanks for your help

I don't know approximate temp increase, but the larger motor should be hotter. Basically a punched out 96". It shouldn't be very noticeably hotter for you. No need for a stage 1 when you put the V&H ovals on.

It's gonna seem hotter with lowers. I have had a 10 EGC 96", 11 Limited 103" and now an 11 RK 103". The 11 Limited was pretty hot with the lowers. The 11 RKC with the 103 without the lowers doesn't seem bad at all. Decatting the head pipe will definitely help. I seriously doubt the heat from a 96 vs the 103 is going to be any different. I think it depends on the lowers and other factors not the actual engine size.

I agree
I came of an 07 sg and went to 11 limited, the 103 seems hotter(and noisier), removing the lowers helps alot with the heat. I havae went into heat management mode in 60 degree weather in heavy traffic.
I also have removed the Cat from my pipe.

I have a 2012 (103) Electra Glide Classic, no lowers. I had my bike for one week, and around 150 miles, and I removed the Cat. My GF complained about the heat, and I thought the heat was unbearable too. The heat was gone and even the stock slip on's sounded good, and all I did was remove the Catalytic Converter. I rode it like that for a month or so and it ran GREAT. Heat was gone, sounded good and allot more power too.

Then I put a Stage One kit on, V&H Slip On's and a PCV Tuner from Fuel Moto with a Map from them and it really came alive then.

Sounds like you are a perfect candidate for niterider's xied's. Steve mullen at niterider say's the largest percentage of his customer's are guy's who want to leave their bikes stock or with minor changes, like slipon's, but cool it down some. They enrich your closed loop. Very inexpensive too! go to tuneyourharley.com lot's of good reading!

I traded my 96cui 09 FLHX for 103cui 2011 FLHX, and noticed a huge difference in the amount of heat that finds the back of my right calf with the 103.

Your 09 didn't have a CAT unless it was a Cali bike.

My 103" 2011 FLHRC has less heat than my 96" 2008 FLSTF did. Both motors stock. I know the larger motor should be hotter but the oil cooler on the FLHRC must be doing it's job.
