Default MU85B16 rear tire?... Pingel brand spacer?

Got a question...
I just bought a new 21" wheel/ tire combo for my '02 FLHT. Also ordered a new rear tire to get rid of the worn-out wide white wall i had on it.
I somehow ordered a Metzeler MU85B16, by mistake. The one i had on was a Maxxis MT90B16 which is maybe 1/16" away from the belt. (And i had to remove the rubber on the belt guard when i installed the MT90).

I know the MT90 is about 130mm, and the MU85 is about 140mm

I have heard the MU tire had deeper tread, so it gets longer tread life. I would like to keep the MU if possible. I came across this spacer kit:
http://www.pingelonline.com/rear_sprocket_spacer.htm

Has anyone used this?... It says no other modifications required. Seems like that would make the belt run at an angle on the sprockets.

I know you can swap to '04 style narrower belt & rear pulley.

Any advice?...

Also, my rear belt pulley looked pretty close to the inside of the swingarm. I didn't measure it, but don't think it was much more than 1/4".
Seems like that spacer would make it pretty close.
(I have rear wheel off now, so i can't measure it).

I understand your concern. I want to run a MU85b16 rear tire on my 02 RKC, but everything looks really tight. I purchased the Vulcan spacer (same as Pingel), but it looks like it'll make the pulley hit the shock. I guess I just have to wait until I get everything mounted and see what happens.

I've read where some people have run it without the spacer. maybe the 3" wide wheel keeps it narrower when its mounted on the wheel. I know some brands will measure differently. I may go ahead & mount it and see how it looks.

gtrplyr, if u get yours mounted before i do, post some pics if u don't mind.

I have to get my wheels powdercoated, so it'll likely be a good month or so before I mount one.

I was going to do the MU85 on my evo last year- the guy at the tire shop said sometimes they fit, sometimes not--- do I want to spend $125 to find out...

So I went with the MT90.

He didn't mention the option of a spacer, but I don't see how it might not cause an issue of alignment with the front pulley.

tire shop guy says he does put MU85's on for guy who have already run them- he just doesn't want to hear about it if there is a problem

and reminded that same "size" tire may be a different width for different brands, so maybe the metzler is narrower on the sidewalls than the dunlop I was looking at

From what i understand, the front pulley is wide enough to let the belt move over to the left side of the bike a little when using the spacer. I'm gonna try to fit the tire without the spacer first, but i ordered this one just in case...

I ran a MU tire on the rear of my 03 Road King using a spacer. Not sure the thickness of the Pingel spacer, but do not go over .2. I tried a .25 and it was too thick causing the rear pulley to rub. The front pulley is long and will work with the added spacer. I do not remember if I had to adjust the belt gaurd, but I did have to remove the flexible rubber on the back of it as it rubbed the tire.

I know you can swap to '04 style narrower belt & rear pulley.

Any advice?...[/QUOTE]
