Have a speedy recovery.
Interesting information about the chaps.
I guess a pair of Kevlon lined jeans would have worked better. Over the years I've thought about buying a pair of those type jeans, since I just ride in normal jeans which I know give almost no protection as far as road rash.
Unfortunately for a lot of rider's it usually takes a bad wreak before they start to think about wearing protective gear. Hopefully post's like yours will help them decide quicker.
Years ago I was in a bad wreck and fortunately had a FF helmet on. The only reason I had started wearing one was to block out the ever constant Kansas wind.
Good luck,
Tom

I don't know if Kevlar jeans would have made a difference. I've got no road rash, my injuries are from impact (it is apparently NOT like falling 3 feet). Hip and knee armor probably would have made a difference in conjunction with either chaps, Kevlar jeans, or some sort of over pant.
I hate to think about being one of those guys who's covered head-to-toe in gear, as I love riding in a T-shirt and lidless, but damn this sucks. And it hurts. And it's f*cking with my job.
Gear won't save your *** in every accident, but I would have stood a much better chance of not breaking my knee if I'd had on armored pants rather than chaps.
Glad to hear you are alright... Bones, scratches, etc. will heal, but the memory will take a while to fade (it won't ever go away fully). And, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the equipment. It's got me thinking about my gear. I am as of now definitely thinking about armored pants (I have chaps, but only wear them when it's cold), and the gloves... gotta rethink that. I looked at the very same gloves you were wearing, but decided to go with some other deerskin gloves. Might change my mind on that as well. But, glad to hear you made it through and will ride again.
