Still in the Army and dont have to shine boots, but toe shifting makes my tan boots black on the toe. I have pretty big feet and I just adjusted the toe shift lever up a notch or two so my foot fit better under it. Love the heel will never ride without it untill it falls off.

Footboard extension and a billet aluminium spacer to move the shifter out. Nice to have the whole FB space with that heel shifter arm gone. Makes it all smoother for me. See a lot of guys tromping on those dual shifter pegs up and down. Wonder why splines get stripped or arms get loose? Got to be smooth boys.

Took my heel shifter off. I like the extra room and I like the look.

See attachment. Pic quality bad, but you get the idea.

Ya just havn't really lived until the first time you pull up to a stopsign and the back of yer chaps catch on the heel shifter! Kinda like the guy on the tricycle on the ole Rowen and Martin Laugh- In show.

My heel shift lever sits in my toolkit as as spare toe shifter/

Took me a while to get used to it after learning with just a toe shifter. But when I got my 2nd bike a Yamaha VStar, it came with footboards and I really liked them. But I found that shifting with steel toe boots, which I have to wear for work, made shifting difficult so I added a heel shifter and been loving it ever since.

For me it is very awkward and I wasn't in the mood to get myself used to using it. I used the Kuryakyn spacer and got rid of it. I never really cared for floor boards too much to start with and bumping my boot into the rear shift peg sucked. I also found myself stomping on it a bit too hard at times. Just a preference.

Sorry but I just don't get the "I can't get use to it" argument! I rode from 67 till 97 with nothing but toe shifters. Took a test ride on a 97 Ultra and was sold on the heel shifter before the ride was over. As for it being in the way the only time my feet are completely on the boards is when it's very cold and I have my legs tucked in against the tank.
But if you don't like it take it off.

I bought an extended heel shifter because I use it and also put floorboard extenders on. The heel shifter sits behind the floorboard, I mounted it just above the board, I can get my whole boot on the board and slid it back and just have to barley lift it to shift. Love it.
