It may be ZERO dollars mod presently, but a deal breaker when you're ready to sell to a private party that wants that heel shifter choice.

I 2nd that.
When I took my heel shifter off. I had a chrome cap put on it that I bought from Harley.
Wanted it done right. Didn't want to screw up the bike.
Know somebody after me would get the bike.
I have been keepin them for about 3 yrs on adverage.

This is my 1st bike with a heel shifter and I'll never do without one again. It grows on you pretty quickly after you use it a day or two.

I started with a Fat Bob with pegs and toe shifter. When I got my new Lo with the heel-toe I figured I'd give it a shot and with only about 400 miles it's getting to be about second nature. I really like it so far and since I'm a Marine who wears tan rough side out leather boots it's nice to be able to ride without scuffing my boots up and putting a black mark on them. Of course I had to lower the heel shifter. I may try and lower it a little more but of course there is a limit before you can't get a full shift in.

cptdenny and cardboard, FYI: Last time I priced a shift lever shaft (the splined part) it was 12 bucks - about half the cost of one of those ugly cap/spacers and about 15 minutes work to replace should a buyer want the heel shifter.
Cutting it off is precisely the correct way of doing it. Looks much cleaner and doesn't screw up anything. Everything else is an over-priced HD afterthought.

I was under the impression that the outer and possibly the inner primary had to be removed along with replacing the gaskets and fluids. If it's that simple of a fix why bother with cutting it off and possibly damage the outer primary when you can just replace it with a single spline part and fore go the chrome caps.

Just thinking out loud.

I removed the heel shifter, marked the shaft, removed the toe shifter
removed the shaft, cut and faced off the shaft, and re assembled every
thing execpt the heel shifter. I love it that away, and because the toe
and heel shifter are the same, I have a spair shifter leaver that I can use
on a later date or have on hand, for an out of town biker that lost the
only shifter leaver that they had.

HD doesn't offer a shortened shift lever shaft. On EG's the splined shaft itself can be removed easily in a matter of minutes - check yours out and see for yourself.
I've done this mod on my wife's Heritage (a little more work as the inner arm is welded) as well as several EG's belong to my buds.
I've seen people look at these bikes and know something's different, they just can't quite put their finger on what it is. That's the very definition of customizing.

I yanked my heel shifter off of both bikes the day I got them home. The heel shifter just gets in my way.

I did get $20 a piece on ebay for each of the heel shifters.
