It is the 1.4 kw starter that fits 09 and up touring models. It's complete and ready to bolt in. Mine is in and starts my F.M. 107 better that when it was new with the 96". Harley sells the identical starter in the catalog for $529. These people have a 100% rating and the starter was at my door in 3 days. The parts alone for a replacement starter clutch were around $80 plus shipping at Dennis Kirk or J&P. Harley wanted close to $120 just for the same crap part as the original. To me it was a no brainer. If I was to repair the old one I would use the HR1 from starterdrives.com. It is the most rugged one on the market and has a stellar reputation.

Do you happen to have a link to the rare elec. starter for 09 models? I searched their website and only found the 07 and older......

Ah HA! Cool! Yeah, I am still getting used to the harley-style part numbers... Sounds like a sweet deal as opposed to getting the all ***** clutch for $80. Especially cause it will be turning a 10.5:1 Fuel Moto powerplant in the near future!

Thanks for the info!

If this starter clutch goes bad look into theis guys. Theres is a lifetime warrenty. All ***** might be too. Its pricey but I love lifetime warrentys. Ive warrentied mine once in 70,000 miles so it paid for itself already.

What were the original symptoms that led you to remove the starter? I believe it is the starter clutch. Upon hitting the start button the gear should fully extend into the ring gear, after start up the ring gear is spinning faster than the starter clutch retracting the gear as the clutch senses this. Good luck.

I was getting a grinding every 30 starts or so
Now it started one time perfect but the second time it would not push the gear onto the big gear of the primary

From your video it looks like something was lef out of the solenoid side of the clutch. Not sure if it is possible to put the clutch in backwards (right side of clutch towards left side of bike) on that year model or not. The motor armature should not get power to turn the pinion gear unless the solenoid is pulled in so your solenoid is pulling in. If all parts are in there when the solenoid pulls in it should push the pinion into the ring gear (big gear). Did you make sure the ball was in the shaft of the overrun clutch? Did you re-build the solenoid. If you did be sure you have the right kit by comparing the old parts to the new parts especially in the length of the pin on the solenoid. Could be other things if you disassembled the the contact side of the solenoid.

I had a starter shop do the work. He only put in the new starter clutch he did say that he put a new contact on the solenoid. My buddy seems to think the starter is not pushing out when it should
