do lowers effect gas mileage

Default do lowers effect gas mileage
Has anyone noticed a drop in gas mileage when riding with lowers on with the vents closed?

They probably improve mileage with less wind turbulence, but it gets shot all to hell when I put my feet out on the highway pegs.....lol

I've never heard that asked before, and I can't say that I could tell you if there's a difference. If it is, it has to be minimal.

I would guess that they decrease wind resistance and drag.

both my 95 80" FLHTC and 09 96" FLHTC had lowers and both got about the same 43 MPG at my typical 70 mph cruising speed.

I do have cooler oil temps ( by about 25ş ) with the lowers on- ambient temp 100ş

My mileage went up just about 1 MPG when I added the Lowers.
It remains the same with the vents open, or closed.

I replaced my heads in the Spring of '10 and decided to try a summer without the lowers put back on.

Got the same 46 mpg that year as I did this year with the lowers back on.

I get 40 with or without the lowers.
