I just joined the touring bike side of the forum yesterday. I traded my 2005 1200 in for a 2007 roadking. The king has vance and hinse oval slip on mufflers on it. Man, they sound like grandma's buick! I had 1 3/4 drag pipes with a lollypop baffle on the sporty. It had an awesome sound. What kind of muffler will come close to the loud chop of a drag pipe? The king rides like a Lincoln and the OL loves it, but I want it to sound like a harley should.
Run V&H true duals with no baffles. They'll be plenty loud. But don't expect too many people to want to ride anywhere near you. I have a buddy with a Street Glide (88") and I have to beat him away from the light every time or my ears HURT bad just being near him.
Hey Bud, I'm almost in your boat. But I would NEVER trade my Sporty. The best solution I have found is Wild Pig pipes. Give them a call, they are very helpful.
problem with a drag pipe is the loss of torque which we need to get that barge moving, so you'll do best with an exhaust that provides torque.
( add in that you have the pipes separated and under neath some fiberglass bags)
also the idle speed on the twin cams is high so that oil pressure and volume are correct to the motor.
A great way to enhance sound is to get turn down pipes or tips.

My 1200C sporty came with SEII mufflers on it. It didn't sound right to me so I put in BCT Monster baffles. It sounded OK but not quite right. I read up on drag pipes and the loss of torq. I put on 1 3/4" drag pipes with torq cones and a lollypop baffle I made from a 3/4" thumb screw. I rejeted the carb and took it out for a ride. Sounded awesome and I couldn't tell if there was any loss of torq. My sporty was a rocketship off the line or accelerating to pass cars. I wouldnt try that with the road king cause I don't know how to tinker with EFI.
Take a listen to the 3rd & 4th sound clips on this video. They are Rush slip-ons with the baffles removed and Thunder Torque inserts. The inserts work on the same principle as the lollipop, but better.
I am getting more power across the band with no baffles the inserts than I was with the baffles!
