Man, what to hell.
My buddy a Harley Mechanic was riding my 09 Streetglide today and said it has lower engine noise (20,000 miles).
He said it sounded like the flywheel was loose on the crankshaft, a known problem.
First I have ever heard of this issue.
I will be heading to the dealer this week, my warranty runs out in April 2012 so if the sucker is going to come apart it had better do it soon.
Anybody with any experience around this issue?
All I can say is SH-T!
So ride it until it blows up and needs the warranty work.
If there is a problem it'll make itself known.
make sure that your motor has stock air cleaner, pipes and ECM when you take it in for blowed up service.
( don't give them any excuse to void warranty claim)
make sure that you are using proper weight oil in the meantime.

Don't panic, your buddy may be all wrong. Have the crank runout checked, normally you can't hear excessive crank runout; you feel it. Do you hear the noise? Dose the bike vibrate/shake more now than in the past?

Another fairly common thing that sounds similar and it much easier to fix is the compensating sprocket in the primary (it's the front gear that drives the primary chain). Mine came loose at about 30,000 and I though I had blown my motor up too...
A mechanic looking to make a buck could know that is possible and try to get you to buy off on a big bore/stroke kit (that could be good thing), when all they need to do is tighten the nut on the compensating sprocket.
if you do need the flywheel, consider very hard, about getting the new flywheel trued, balanced and welded. it will be on your dime, around 500.00 but you will be a whole lot better off, and most likely will never have any lower end problems again
Inner primary bearings are bad about going out too. They make the noise in the area of the flywheel. It can also let the starter ring rub the inner housing. At least it did on friends 08 Ultra Classic.
not being a smart mouth.... I've had the same mechanic for over 20 years. Though I don't always know what's wrong... which is why you catch me reading all the "what's wrong" posts, I'm well known to Mike/mechanic for "I hear something Mike".
He always honors my hearing and tells me anything.. don't wait. A few times it was serious.
So, question why wait? until she blows as some have suggested. Is the risk of taking out the bottom not an issue? I know it's warranty but would not a flywheel or bearing blowing do a lot of unseen damage and wear for down the road?

Ok, I hit Rossmeyers Destination Daytona just after lunch today. The shop area was real quiet so they took my bike in for a look. I was in the store about 10 minutes when my cell went off, all fixed said the advisor.
I went to the advisors desk and he laughed, yup a lower end rattle he said, the timing cover was loose and rattling around, have a nice day.
What can I say good fast service, no real issue with the bike and I am a happy man.
