Ok a few months back I bought a Reckless faring. I installed my own radio and speakers. Now Im lost, I don't know what to buy for a wiring harness or where to buy it. Don't know where to hook it up. I have read to attach it under the seat. Im a dummies dummy when it comes to wiring haha not really, but Im lost at this point. Can someone give me some DETAILED instructions what direction to go from here.
I have already used google, didn't find what I was looking for so that's why Im asking here.
Its a 2010 RKC. I have just the harness that comes with the radio. Nothing is hooked up yet (meaning as far as wires) as I figured Id wait to run speaker wires when I hook the power to it. I don't plan on putting on an antenna because I bought the Alpine stereo with the built in XM, so I don't plan on using the standard radio. Will also use my ipod. I guess what I need is to get the power into the fairing, where to hook it up, what to purchase and Id like to have some type quick connect incase I decide to switch between the fairing and the windshield.
Contact Forum member "Harleypingman", Carl knows a thing or 2 about radios/wiring and he might be able to steer you in the right direction.
Good luck....
hdoilcan, I'm not familiar with the wiring on the RK, but you should be able to find a 12V power and ground in the nacelle; tap the power and ground there; and, use a quick disconnect for the power and ground wires for the head unit--e.g. the SAE disconnects used on a battery tender and the like, or Deutch connectors HD uses.
Since you aren't dealing with an amp that requires larger amperage, any 12V source inside the nacelle should work, or you can draw power and ground from the accessory connector under the seat and install the quick disconnect someplace convenient for installing and removing the fairing.
I have a 2010 RKC, I have a dragonfly fairing. Your gonna get an amp eventually so you may wish to wire things now. There is an open Duetsch connector under the seat, above, and forward of the battery. I matched up the connecter and ran a 10 gauge input and a smaller turn on line 16 gauge. Ground I ran back to the battery. I installed a 30 amp inline fuse, I also put another Duetsch plug inline under the nacell to make it portable.
