I did the same thing You are about to undertake...
it seems that there were 2 plugs on each side since I also wired in the under T/P amp harley offers...
I also used the 2 different colors as well for the rt side vs the lft side...I went one step farther there and reversed 1 plug on each side so that the male could go only into that specific plug and the F/male would go into the other plug...so as to not get them confused with each other...

Also if time is no a factor solder the connections where you crimped them...makes for a problem free connection later down the road...Just a bit of insurance...

The pliers you have chosen will be fine this project
How ever for whats its worth after taking all this time to make the connections detachable I have yet to take the T/P off...Its just so use full...
If you need some help hollar I'm not to far from you...

enjoy cause when you finish you will be ready for another project...or just be able to help a fellow compadray...

The solid contacts are milspec
The best out there. The stuff used on our bikes is the cheapest stuff going that is one of the reasons Harley are notorious for electrical problems. Its important that what ever decide to use that your crimps are good and solid.Intermittent problems sux to trouble shoot.
