Question I have a question for you guys

I recently traded my Yamaha Road Star for a 2001 FLHTC at a local Dealer here in South Florida. The bike has a stage one, air cleaner, Kerkker exhuast. The bike runs really strong. My question is how can one tell if the cams have been up-graded or not? What would be the easiest way to tell onther than a Dyno run?

Thanks

The Dealer had limited info because the bike came from up north.

Without Maintenance records, I think the only way to be sure is to actually look at the Cams.

Sometimes with real aggressive Cams, you can tell by the way the bike runs, but with milder Cams, it's really hard to tell the difference without looking at the Cams themselves.

I might suggest that an experienced builder could draw some conclusions by observing the pushrods when the motor is turned over by hand--- the amount of over lap ( both valves open) is slight on stock cams, longer in duration on aftermarket cam, also higher lift).

adjustable pushrods - would be a quick tip off that someone has been in the cam case, lift the push rod covers and look

Pull the cam cover and 'read' the numbers on the end of the cams. And if it still has the stock tensioners, the odds are pretty good that the cams are stock too.

Take it to an indy shop and ask them. I know a really good one to look at down that way if you're interested.

I personally would open up the cam chest and look at the tensioners and while u r in there u could look at the cams .

Hey great Idea, I'll take a look see at the push rods. If they are adjustable then more than likely. I have some Cobra True Dual Head pipes on order, when I go to install them I'll inspect the cam tensioners and cams.

Thanks
