Default Help Replacing RG Windscreen Pls!

11' Roadglide - Replacing Klockwerks with Clearview and need help. 1. Removed Klockwerks and center screw insert (Pic 1) came out of fairing, how do you get it back in?
2. The trim piece that was on there, under the windscreen (pic 2) (large flat rubber piece with small lower lip), does that stay on there and the thick trim goes on the windscreen edge (pic 3)?

Not sure but it looks like you may need a set of well nuts. Sometimes they can be reused and sometimes not. I keep an extra set in the tool box.

yeah, that center well nut looks pretty distorted. try warming it up some, screwing it on the screw a little bit and see if you can 'push' it back into shape. like nytryder, i try to keep some on hand. some folks are able to get them from ace or lowes, but my lowes does not sell them.....

as far as your other questions, if that trim (pic 3) came with your clearview, then thats what you should use, without the big piece in pic 2. some windshields don't use any trim at all, not sure about the clearview thats why i specified above.

that fat trim (pic 3) is a lot like the stock trim on the windsplitter. it doesn't like to stay where you put it. i used this on mine and it looks a lot better, and stays in place, without glue: http://www.xcycletrim.com/harley-windshield-trim.php

That looks like a SE road glide so you won't be using the big rubber piece. Your clearview should have come with new well nuts, if not than get some. You can usually warm up the old ones and roll them around in your fingers to iron them out, but the one in the pics looks done. A good trick is to put the screws through the windshield into the well nuts than put the windshield on the bike, saves pushing the wellnuts inside the fairing.

And when you tighten them, only go 8 or 9 turns. That will prevent them from squashing like the one in your picture.

Hit it with a hair dryer to warm it up and roll it in between your fingers, it may pop back into shape. If not go to Lowes and get some new "well nuts" out of the speciality hardware section.

As others have said dont over tighten them.

I like to attach all well nuts to the windshield first very loosely and then press the nuts and windshield into position, start from the middle and work out to the ides, putting pressure on the windshield up against the fairing as you tighten. You dont need the gasket.

I finally got it installed, yes its a SE Road Glide.. The instructions had a note "2011 Ultra models re-use rubber gasket from stock windshield", this was directly under the instruction for installing the foam trim. I'm assuming the flat rubber gasket was stock, I got the bike used, it came with a Klockwerks installed so I can't be sure. My first RG so I dont know whats different on the 11'. It certainly is a tight fit. Thanks for the help!

I picked up some well nuts from the dealer for my 06 RG. The shoulder on the well nut was about 1/16" wider than the hole in the fairing. Of course, it didn't work well. Once again, their engineering department obviously didn't pay to much attention to this part.
Lowes provides better parts for H-D than H-D does.
