I just purchased a set of used Harley hard saddlebags and they didn't have keys. Can I just purchase replacement keys or do I have to get new locks? Thanks for the help.
Any barrel key of the same diameter will work. Your harley key or any other harley key will work. The locks on the bag and the tank are not key speciffic.
I think you need the vin # of the bike they came off to get new keys, and then you could start that bike, so there may be an issue there. I would anticipate new locks, plus you can have them match your key.

This was not the case with my '09 FLHX. The previous owner had lost the keys, and had a generic barrel key that came with it. This generic barrel key would open the fuel filler door, but would not lock the saddlebags or the fork lock.
Went to the dealer with proof of ownership and had a pair of keys made for $22. Takes about 10 business days to get them.
Funny follow-up: on the same day the dealer calls me to tell me my new keys arrived, I also get a call from the seller who found the keys. At first I was bummed about spending the money, but have since lost the replacements myself, and am glad I have the extra set.

Yeah, that's incorrect. You are right about the gas tank key though. That one is any barrel key. Ignition, hard bags and tour pak locks are all VIN specific. When I ordered my tour pak they had to send off for the key to match everything else.
That would seriously be some **** if any barrel key could open the saddle bags... Might as well have leather with the clasps. lol
Thanks for all of the posts people. I so appreciate this forum and all of the great advice and information i receive from fellow riders! Be Safe!!! Jeek
I guess I was wrong. I have only tired my key on one other bike's bags other than mine. It was a street glide that was one year older than mine and my key fit his bags. Guess it was just a fluke.
You can get new locks (that will come with a set of keys), matched to your bike or you can get keys. If I remember correctly the locks are cheaper than the keys.
