Default Hoppe fairing

Has anybody used a Hoppe fairing using the stock roadking bushings? Not sure why they say don't use without them other than it might blow off but I don't see how it could. Bought one used but the seller left the bushings on the other bike. Is it safe?

I am using a Dead Center Cycles Fairing with stock RK bushings in front struts. Blow off? I don't know what your trying to explain.

Is this something with the Hoppe mounting brackets?

I am assuming that they are the same as woodysfairings because they used to work together, so I will give you what he told me. The stock ones are rubber which over time get worn down. The ones that come with Woodys and assume Hoppe are metal and are machined just smaller than the thickness of the mounting bracket. You need to loosen and tighten them down in order to take the fairing on and off, thus creating a small clamping force to keep it in place. This is not a big deal at all and takes a minute to do. The fairing is heavier than just the windshield so the extra clamping force is nice, plus makes it harder for someone to just walk up and take the fairing. You can use the stock bushings but over time you will notice some play in the fairing. Hope this helps

Not sure. Hoppe uses a stainless steel bushing which must be tightened down to install/remove locking it on. Since this fairing mounts just like stock windshield I don't see the difference .

Yeah, that is the same than as Woodys use, I should have said stainless steel. They are machined to a spec just smaller than the width of the bracket from the fairing, thus giving you clamping force. One piece is pretty much a washer and the other is machined to have a step in it. I can take a pic later today when I get my bike out if you would like. Over time the rubber bushings will change firmness with the outside temp, so it will wear and allow the fairing at first small movement but over time more and more movement. The fairing has a good weight to it so I prefer it to stay in one place and not move at all when in cross winds, head winds etc. You can use the stock rubber bushing but will need to replace them most likely yearly. If you call woody (http://www.woodysfairings.com/) he is great about answering any and all questions. He can and I am sure will explain it far better than me.
