Default clutch change question

i have the manual, but some of the wording, and how they break down the procedure is odd.

to just check or change out clutch plates

do i need to do anything aside from..

loosen clutch cable at the adjuster on the cable

pull outer primary cover off

remove clutch nut and adjustment rod

take the 5 bolts that hold the clutch spring

and start pulling apart

or do i need to do anything else.
in the manual it only shows the procedure to pull the entire basket out, which entails locking the compensator and clutch baskets, then taking the primary chain off and so forth.

shouldnt have to do that to just pull the clutch spring and plates correct?

I agree that will do it. Give the 5 bolt a couple turns in a cross pattern out and in to keep pressure equal. Note carefully how it comes apart. There is a reverse damper cup spring and seat in the very back of the stack. Be sure it points correct direction Think they are to help break the stack when you clutch to ease the bang. 'note I said ease, not cure...HA' I was in mine at 30K and the clutch looked measured like brand new.

And DO NOT TOUCH the clutch lever, ( as in pull it in,) during this process unless you want to see what's under the clutch actuation cover on the right hand side.

You will "flip" a 3 ball ramp that must be reset, so leave it alone until you are done with the clutch.

Nope, older bikes with actual "springs" did.

thanks guys..
this will be the first time doing any work on the inside of the primary, so its nice to get some insight from people who have done it vs. just reading the manual.

although all the working components on this bike are very simple designs, its more complicated to me since i have never worked on one before this bike. always had jap bikes before which have become second nature for me to work on.
