I have an '07 SG and want to upgrade the audio output. Apparently the '07 systems have switched to 2 ohm and most aftermarket speakers are 4 or 8 ohms. Also haven't been able to find amps with 2 ohm output. I want to add 6x9s to saddlebags in addition to new fronts. I would like to find out if anyone has upgraded theirs and have details or pics. I would also like to use aftermarket, if possible, before buying the HD high output system. I have seen really nice systems in older bikes but I think that's because they were 4 ohm and they had more options.
i am planning on doing the same thing--I am in the first stage of deciding what componets to get so far this is what I am thinking.
1. 4 channel amp in one of the bags---I'm still checking this out for size and power. Looking for at least 50 watts into 4. I have an amp and aftermarket speakers from another source but it's not loud enough and does not put out the power I'm looking for. Slightly better than stock.
2. Polk Audio Car Speakers 4 ohm 5.25 in fairing 6 x 9 or 4 x 8 in the bags they are certified marine grade --- I haven't decided if I want to go component with cross-overs or coxials.
3. I have to decide to cut one large hole in each bag or drill several small holes in each bag. I am leaning towards the drilling---this will offer more protection for the speakers.
4. My brother has an amp in each bag along with 6 x 9 pioneer speakers, 5.25 pioneer speakers in the fairing. Sony head unit with screen (why do you need a screen is beyond me) it is a sharp set up. Sounds fantastic on his Ultra.
My brother is not that computer literate so he can't help much, he is sending me pictures of the set up.
5. There is a stereo shop in Conyers, GA Sound Pro accross the street from the stealership that has done several of these installs---they are charging me $350 for the install.
Hogman just noticed you are in Northern Cali, my brother is in Suisun City---shoot me a PM i'll give you his number he'll let you know where to get it done at.
If you plan on keeping the H/K Pez has the 2ohm speakes and the amp and several SG riders have gone this route. Do a search for Hog Tunes and read away. Pez will probably chime in here he is a member of the forum. Excellent costomer service.
I put the older Hogtune speakers (4 ohms) in my 06' Street Glide with the HK stereo. They had not come out with the 2 ohm speaker yet when I got these. They have worked great without any problems. Much better sound than the stock speakers. Hogtunes told me there would not be any real difference if I switched to the new 2 ohm speakers so I have just left them alone.....
