Dawg, it was the tube and cap. I should've updated before this, but the whole rant came down to a missed click on the screen at the dealer.

I went to the shop that following Saturday to 'assert' myself, and was greeted by the mgr., who apologized for the mixup. The guy who checked shipping status missed something on the 'puter, and everything was in by Tuesday.

I dropped off my parts and just told 'em to gimme the new ones and I'd assemble them later. Also said that this is the 21st century, and most ANYTHING can be overnighted. At least they didn't give me grief over the warranty question - that really would've lit the fuse...

Why is it that motorcycle dealerships operate in entirely different ways than autos? Seems like your assumed guilty and have to prove otherwise, rather than vice versa.

So H-D took care of the part under warranty? If so that's mighty nice of them.

Few bolts are "hand started" in assembly factories. That goes for bikes, cars, lawnmowers, etc. Sometime bolts start crossed and are forced all the way to torque value in a crossed condition. You can thank the electric/air/or hydraulic powered automatic torquing wrenches in use on high output assembly lines.

They did, and I keep that in perspective. For a couple hundred in parts I wouldn't compromise my integrity, and I believe they knew that, too.

What irked me was being told they couldn't get the part for a month after ordering - there's no excuse for that in this day and age. As Dawg showed, it could've been overnighted from a dozen different sources, and I'm reasonably sure HD would have compensated them for it.

One other thing I'll say in my dealer's behalf - I laid this story out to the mgr. of another local dealer, and before I could ask what he'd have done he cut in to say 'You didn't buy it here, we're not gonna handle it here'.

And no wonder I didn't buy it there...

"Why is it that motorcycle dealerships operate in entirely different ways than autos?"

They don't pay as well as automotive.
