Default Realigning ignition lock

Hey ya'll. I had the ignition switch pulled out when I was swapping handlebars on my EG, and despite my effort to keep everything from moving, I cannot use the steering lock and need to get it all back in line. Is there any way I can do so without going into the dealers for the alighment tool? I may have to talk to the service writer about it, but I would hate to pay for an hours labor for 2 minutes worth of work.

A large flat blade screwdriver work for me.

There is a good thread here somewhere on how to do it.

yeah its a pita but you can do it. I made a t shape from 8 gauge wire to turn the lower dial. Has to be just wide enough to slide down through both dial slots and turn the lower dial. The lower one is the one that usually has to be realigned.

Screwdriver worked for me. Follow the section in the service manual that explains what to do if it is not lined up of you have one.

Make sure you put the plastic bottom piece, metal piece then nut back in before trying to align. When I had mine off I thought I could just align without those pieces to turn the front end and struggled for almost an hour before I realized I needed them in place before putting ignition back in and turning.

Thanks ya'll. I usually use the search first before posting, but didn't think this would have been covered so much already.

After spending a few minutes figuring out how it all worked, I found out that the post on the detent collar was clocked just a hair too far to the right. works just fine now. BTW, the alignment tool for a late model will NOT work in a 2003. Not that you need anything more than a screwdriver anyway now that I know how it works.
