Default Moco vs DIY.

Hey guys ,listen, I've got a 2012 Street Glide coming my way end of Feb. So my question to you all is this...what upgrades and/or mods should I have Moco install, vs Mods and upgrades I can and should do myself.

I'm completely wrench capable so I'm not too worried about that. I'm just looking for ideas on which items I should invest in through moco or on my own.

For starters I've asked for Chrome fork lowers, and the upgraded speaker sound system.

Ok guys what's your opinion.

Bear in mind that any accessories/upgrades that are MOCO and get installed by the dealer prior to or within 60 days of delivery would then be covered under the bike's 2 year warranty as opposed to the standard 90 day P&A warranty.

Cost is really the only driving factor here. I can't tell you what mods to do to your bike - that's totally up to you. Obviously, there are about a million different mods possible. If you can get a special rate from the Dealer then let them do it. If you can save a ton of money then do it yourself. Contrary to what some may tell you, DIY mods do not void your warranty.

No , I'm aware of the warranty issues etc... But I'm trading in my FatBob for the SG. So im just looking for some experience points here , regarding your mods..what were worth it, what wasn't.

For example. Is the upgraded sound system worth the time and money, now mind you, this upgrade.is coming with the sounds mats and speaker cones to promote a quality sound.
Just wondering if theses upgrades are .worth the money .

Gamble on the warranty, do it yourself...why give more of your money to the moco if you can do it yourself

Best bet it to get an idea of what you want your bike to look like as a "finished product", and what parts it will take to get there. Then individually search the topics on this forum. That will assist you with making intelligent purchases. Otherwise, such a general question such as what you asked will get 1,000 different opinions and in the long run, probably not be too helpful to you.

For example: Yes, upgraded sound is worth it; to me, maybe not to others. But how are you going to upgrade? Boom!? Hawg-Wired? Hog-Tunes? J&M? Marine grade audio equipment? How much are you willing to spend? Are you going to put an amp in? Speakers in saddlebag lids? Lowers? As you can see there are a lot of variables. I've researched my "build" for over a year before I started pulling the trigger on big mods. But that's just me.

Dawg's comment about the 60 days within delivery is a factor to many people. Stage I? Do it yourself. Cams? If the dealer does it within 60 days it's covered under warranty. If you don't give a damn and can do it yourself, then do it yourself.

Personally, for me, upgrades that have been worth the money include:
-Stage I
-21" wheel
-Black forks
-Apes
-new deck and amp and speakers
-stretched fender and bags
-new seats

I bought a 2012 SG myself, and had the dealership upgrade the stereo (iPod, Amp/Speakers, hidden antenna), install the painted inner fairing and do the chrome front end kit. The front end, because I'm not comfortable with myself, and the electronics because I wanted them added to the warranty right out of the gate. I did negotiate a discount on all the parts, and got a pretty decent deal on installation since they were doing parts that would overlap (i.e. they're in there for the iPod, so doing the amp and antenna isn't much incremental work).

Everything else, I plan to do myself including slip-on, A/C and tune, plus any other bolt ons I like over time...

I tend to divide it up into two areas:

Complex modifications like Cams, Heads, Forks, Stage 1 upgrade w/ EFI tuner, etc.. Id get the dealer to do it.
Simple stuff like Speakers, Seats, Windshield, Chrome add ons... you can do that.

But its your call
