I am assembling my motor back together and I have had the head ported new cams and new lifters new fuel moto pushrods
Today I got the heads all back on and when we were putting the pushrods back in I can't use the tool fuel moto provided. The push rod tubes won't go up high enough to use them
But I just held them up with my hands while my buddy made the adjustments. But when I talked to fuel moto they said about 4 turns and it would be good but we even turned about 6 times and they still had play
Any pointers or help would be great
The heads were also milled 60 off
Also, I'm assuming when you installed them you turned the rods till their was no up and down movement and then made the 4 complete turns for the adjustment.
For holding the tubes up I use coat hanger wire with a small hook on one end and bent so that it hooks into a rocker cover bolt.
You have to get the cylinder you are adjusting on the compression stroke. You can tell this by putting your finger over the sparkplug hole. Put the bike in the highest gear and roll the engine forward. When it compresses it will push air out the sparkplug hole. you should go as close as possible to the top of the stroke to get the exhaust and intake on the lowest part of the lobe. When you have done this lengthen the pushrod until you get resistance from the lifter, as far as you can go by hand. Then run the pushrod out the recommended number of turns. The pushrods should be tight and unmoveable by hand. When you have done both the exhaust and the intake walk away for at least ten minutes. If you are using Wood lifters it might take more than ten minutes unless they are brand new. When you can spin the pushrod by hand, secure the the tubes and move to the other cylinder. Repeat the process.
You better be careful when ajusting the push rods 6 turns. That seem a little to tight and you make bend a valve or bust a piston. There are plenty videos here and on youtube showing the correct procedure. If you are still unsure I'd call FM on monday and they will walk you thru the procedure...

You need to adjust until all slack is removed and then an additional 4 (or whatever) turns. There's more to it than simply installing the pushrod and adjusting some number of turns.
If I were you you I'd either get some compotent help or do some studying before proceeding any farther.

Sure does sound like my initial assessment was correct. If the rods were completely collapsed when installed you'll need several turns just to take up the valve train slack. Then once the slack is removed you can then proceed to preload the lifter "x" number of turns.
