I have extensions as well, and yes, very satisfied with them; but best mod ever? I dunno about that......

It is a very inexpensive mod that yields nice results.

They make a huge difference. I always ride with my feet on the pegs and I can now rest my heels on the boards.

Does it affect lean angle, do boards hit sooner?
how hard is it to use a heel shifter with the board positioned out further from it?

It does affect lean angle, slightly very slightly but probably only if your bike is lowered

I have yet to scrape board in the stock set up and neither had my wife, but today she did, now her FB is lowered 2 in all the way around

Now one thing that takes getting use to, the kickstand is a little more difficult to get at with the boards out that extra width

The wife is having trouble and a jiffy stand extension is in her future very soon, like this week

The heel shifter is probably a little easier because it isn't as cramped.
