Just went out and looked at the Starter wire rubber grommet. It's pulled down pretty far. I'm going to cut the wire tie and loosen it up. What type of sealant should I use around the grommet? Thanks for the heads up on this one.
+1..this is where my leak was, but I swore it was coming from the under the primary. If this seal is leaking the oil travels right along the primary seal and and dips. I bet this is where it is. Good luck
Just discovered the same problem on my '10 -- no leaks whatsoever in 2 and a half years... suddenly 2 drops every time I shut down....
Leaks are one thing for which I reserve the 'hate' emotion!
Thanks for the resolution info... sounds like it'll work for me. Let you know what I find.
OK...can I jump in here? same problem on my 07 RK...leaks right by the primary drain plug...but I am almost certain that's not the problem...new O ring and Teflon tape on the plug...nothing any further forward and it doesn't seem to be running down from higher up.... strange part is...sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't...sometimes it is like a drop every 20-30 seconds and sometimes it's a drop an hour...and when I'm riding around town when I'm sitting at a light sometimes I can smell what smells like 90 weight rear end fluid ...stinks...I'm hoping it's just the outer primary gasket..I'm getting ready to R&R the compensator and will replace that gasket in the process....and finally..I check my fluid levels often..no noticeable drop in the tranny or crankcase...and the only way I know to check the primary is pulling off the derby cover...any ideas anyone?
If your smelling gear oil, it wouldn't be your outer primary gasket, unless your using gear oil in your primary.
Sounds like while your in there you better pull your inner primary and replace all the seals and gaskets.
My guess would be the shifter shaft seal.

Are you running gear oil in your tranny? Like arlinsg said could be shifter shaft where it goes into trans or output shaft seals behind trans belt pully. Check from bottom with a mirror and good light.
