So I was perfectly happy with my 06 Ultra stock with true duals, Then my man at the dealer said I should change to the stage 1 air cleaner, put it off for awhile, did it and everyone was right, it's an absolute must. The stock assembly is someones idea of an EPA joke or HDs to sell an upgrade. It still ran fab with no drivability issues on the stock download but I felt warned to do something, the dealer did a free download which gave me my first set of problems. Their suggestion was they called the HD Race Tuner which doesn't get much air play on the Forum, But all this to say all is well, and the dealer has offered any further programing to my satisfaction for one year at no cost. They charged me $450.00. So whats anyones take on the Race Tuner or is it just going by another name? BTW my dealer has a dyno but believes their experience over rules the punishment of putting a bike on one-sounded like they're losing money or it's credable.
I have an 01 Classic I bought used with V&H pipes. Seller said it had stage 1, I was stupid for trusting and not checking. After a while I started to get a lot of popping and backfire. Dealer told me I needed a race tuner to match programming for the V&H pipes to Harley interface. Has ran like a champ ever since
I had my bike dyno tuned with the SERT (Screaming Eagle Race Tuner).
numbers look something like 84 TQ 72 HP
Bike has almost 5000 miles on it now with no ill effects from the dyno.
Thanks for clarifiing SERT for me,I've been thinking I was out there going for da tuner instead of a SERT or a commander. Now I'm even happier than when I shared my good news!
One advantage of the race tuner though, you can do the ignition on the cylinders separately. Others cant. You do need to dyno it to get the best results.
Nick tuned mine at Custom Performance in Phx, AZ.
HP = 73.3
TQ = 87.8
Big Sucker intake
Wild Pig slipons
S.E.R.T.
These numbers are in the top few % for a basicly, stock bike. Its all in the tune. A knowlagable person can do alot more with a SERT. My opinion is dont settle for anything less than the SERT on your bike.
