i haven't installed it yet but i got the detachable kit for christmas. i like the look with out the pak so mine will only go on for long weekend rides or the wife wants to ride on the back instead of her own. also wanted since my wife has her own my backseat gets pimped out everytime and this way whoever is riding for the day can't fill the pak with shirts, jackets, and whatever else they feel needs to come along for a day ride.
Love the look of no tour pack, however like the convience of storage. You never know when your out on a ride and you find that one of a kind item you just got to have. What would you do if you had no way to get it home? So the tour pac stays on 24/7
UPS or FedEx, I have one but like the sporty feel with out it.
I have almost permanent permission to ride IF it's related to groceries! Means that the tourpak never gets off. On the other hand taking it off takes 2 minutes and I rather ride that valuable time too ;-)
I routinely drop my son off at school in the mornings. and need someplace for him to put his helmet. Helmets don't fit in the saddle bags.
So most of the school year the tour pack stays on. But when school is out the tour pack comes off. Unless the wife and I are taking a trip.
The other side of the coin is I can't aford the higher priced Ultras. But I can aford a Road King and add to it a little at a time. Minus the intercom and CB I'm pretty much there.
But, it can go from this:
To This in a few minuites
#1 - It saved me $21K on a new Street Glide
#2 - Don't need the extra trunk space when I am not doing any touring
#3 - My wife now has her own Harley Sportster... ref #1 & #4
#4 - Did I mention it saved me $21K...
#5 - I can be a Geezer Glider (TP on), or feel like I am 21 again (TP off)... LOL
#6 - I now own a transformer
The list actually goes on, but I think these ones are the best
