Reasons for having TP on -- Like the storage if were going to be going aways, and wife thinks its a little more comfortable for long hauls too.
Reasons for taking TP off -- Wife finds it much easier to get on/off the bike without the TP on when were running around town making frequent stops. Still plenty comfortable for her for the short hops. Don't usually need the storage when i'm only 1/2 hour from the house. Looks different, not really better or worse, just different.
I like the tour pack for touring and for passenger comfort for two-up riding. All other times I prefer to have it off. The bike looks much nicer. Perhaps it is only in my head, but it feels much more nimble without it.
I use my detachable classic tour pack for polishing countertops, when im off work the tour pack comes off, and you can really feel the difference in power and handling, I like it off.
As for most, it's to have a cleaner look. I'm with you though, I carry around too much stuff and use my bike often for errands so I need my box on all the time.
Ditto. I commute 60 miles one way to work everyday on it and I love having the tour pack back after getting rid of my Road Glide.
Looks better in my opinion. Less like an ice cream cart. And it gives slightly noticeably lighter feeling (less top heavy) to the bike when its off. Much lighter feeling if it has been loaded up recently.
I know I'm not a UC rider and I have a RK, but I have a detachable Tourpak. Fantastic storage for touring, and the wifey prefers it for riding two up. Other than that its off.
My sentiments exactly. I really don't like the look of the bike with Tourpak on, but OMG is it a useful and wonderful thing to have for a big road trip. Also when two-up with the wife and the three ring circus that goes with her being along on a ride. In winter it's very useful cuz I can ride to work in a t-shirt in the afternoon, but at nite it's 40* on the way home, so I need a winter jacket, etc.
Otherwise for a nice day ride I strip the RK down and enjoy the sleeker feel of the bike.
