I am getting ready to flush mount my lights in my bags. Will have no other lights on the rear of my machine. My question is what all is needed to do this and where to get it. The lights are dual intensity lights with only 3 wires. How do you wire tail , turn and stop to each light? Is there a module of some sort to do this? What are you guys using for disconnects at the bags? Thanks for any help
you'll have to make something up, either using some H-D type connectors that mate or by splicing into the rear lighting harness under the seat ( with the antenna wire)
blk- ground
blue-run
red-brake
you'll also need to wire in turn signal function.... and you WILL need a load balancing device.
you're askin some big questions there, requiring a fairly elaborate response
have you checked the custom dynamics website? great site for LEDs and connection options.
I would think that your three wires would be running, brake, and ground. Look at your bike's wiring diagram and find which wires are which. Running is usually blue, brake is usually red. Turn signals are usually violet and brown
as for connectors...easiest way would be to get some t-tap connectors to splice into existing wiring, then get some AMP connectors and sockets / pins for the bag disconnects.
FYI...I know you already have your lights, but another option is to use a Run/Turn/Brake controller like the Badlands Illuminator if compatible. You can then run single filament LEDs or standard bulbs and the module controls the intensity.
Your LEDs didn't come with any wiring diagram or specs or instructions?
You might want to ask some questions at either Badlands, Namz, or Custom Dynamics. Dudes at Badlands are cool as f--k.
i should have elaborated a little more. the lights have three wires grd/run and brake. just wasnt sure how the turn would come into play but if the modules adjust the intensity then i think i understand now. one wire will be run/turn or run brake i take it. now to find one for a 12 sg. not to many options.
The controllers combine the running and brake light function and patch it to the turn signals. I'm pretty sure Badlands has a controller for you.
Kuryakyn probably does, too, but not sure. I've used several Badlands modules on several bikes and have had nothing but great results with 'em. Cool people, too.
I have mine done and can post pics tomorrow. I used a badlands voltage regulator device I bought from bad dads.
When you do the cut outs in your bags you need to get them as close to shape as possible . I will also post pics of this too.
I bought LEDs from Hi Tech and paid a lot less than what other people charge. And most get there's from hi tech.
