Mine had a little bit of a gap. Ask me if I care. It's barely noticeable.

Make sure it's pushed all the way over the stock trim ring.
I found it easier to take the stock trim ring off and slip the visor over it then install both together.

The idea is that you need more to force the trim ring together than just the tightening action of the screw. So force it together first and let the clamp hold it in place while you tighten the screw. The plastic pads on the clamp won't harm the chrome on the ring, or at least it didn't on mine. Once tightened the ring will stay in place. It may not get rid of the gap completely but should get it close.
That's the exact same thing I did. Makes it a whole lot easier.

Did you leave the stock ring in place?

This is how I got mine on too.

Had the same problem...there was no way to get it to close. I pulled the stock ring off and put it inside of the new ring just to check, and there was no way the new ring would close any further than about a 1/4-1/2" gap with it being installed over the stock ring.

So, here's what I did...

I removed the stock ring. I then removed the 8 or 9 screws that hold the headlight assembly to the nacelle. I put 1/4" flat washers on each of those 8-9 screws and screwed them back in. The 1/4" washers stick out just far enough that it gives something for the new trim ring to grip onto. Put the new trim ring on without the stock ring. Tightened it down...no gap and it looks great. Hope that helps....Seems like some of the new rings go on over the stock ring and fit perfectly, and others like mine will never fit no matter how much clamping and tightening you do.

I got mine on with no gap.
Even had to take it off a couple times and still got it back on with no gap.
You do have to leave the stock ring on and this ring fits over it.
Make sure you take the mounting screw out of the stock ring before you install the visor.
The stock ring has to be lose in order for the visor to slip over it and close properly.
After that just reinstall the stock ring screw and the visor bolt.
