My wife wants the Fuel Moto head pipes and the Jackpot carbon fiber mufflers for her 2011 Street Glide. she has no interest in more power, cams ect ect. I have installed the Xieds to help with the heat issues.
if I just change the pipes and mufflers can I get by without a Power Commander or other tuner ? should I also change to a high flow air cleaner or leave it as is since she is not really interested in a power increase.
If your doing head pipes and mufflers, you might as well go ahead and get the AC and tuner. The bike will run cooler and better and she will be happier in the long term.
12 ultra. Dresser duals. Twin slash rounds. Vo2 a/c and fl-10 vied. Runs great and sounds even better. I dont plan on any engine upgrades so the vied is all I need since it works.
Could I get better performance out of a tuner. Sure. But I like to K.I.S.S. not to mention if I got a tuner there would be yet another thread on trying to figure the damn thing out and get it tuning right. Not worth the headache.
Personally I would spend my money elsewhere than a tuner.

Like cdemarse said, FL-VIEDS are about $120, they are basically resistors that plug in between the 02 sensors and the ECM, and they richen the mixture a bit, allowing the bike to run cooler. A lot of people that have these are are very happy. If you dont like them you can sell them for about $50 and you can go with a more elaborate (and expensive) tuning system.
These things take about 10 minutes to install, the hardest part is getting to the battery terminal for the grounding wire.
Bike is going to run cooler when he takes out the cat with the pipes he is going with. I would see how it runs after changing out the pipes and mufflers. If it is popping a little bit check for leaks if you can't find any then I would go with an AC and tuner.

Yup I'm one of them. I've got the Jackpot mufflers with the stock header pipe that's de-catted with the stock AC (replaced the stock filter element with a KN). I've got the VIED and it's a winning combination. I just checked my plugs the other day and they look like they are getting the right mixture. The only way I would even consider a tuner is if I went full bore stage 1.
my 07 pinged when hot(wich was alway) from the factory, ran ides and they were an improvement but didn't get rid of the ping pcv ping gone,as well as heat and runs better, not just more power but the lack of stumbling and surging.those result hold true with pipes and or ac or stock.just my opinion on my bike.your results will likely differ as no 2 harleys are ever the same.
