I asked a mechanic that just this Fri. He said to me that they are much harder on the lifters than other brands but he considers changing lifters with Wood cams installed just routine maintenance every 15-20 thousand miles. I asked him are they loud or is it just internet gossip? He said yes they are louder but not too loud for what you are trying to do when you install them, trying to make power!!

I can't tell you about wear yet, but as far as noise, my upper end is actually quieter now than stock was.
Put my Woods directional lifters in for the time being. Got my 555's sitting on the tool box as we speak, waiting to pull out my TW 6-6's which ran very well. Can't wait to find the time to install the 555's with the new map..

I have never had Wood cams. I am strongly considering a set of 408-6's. The guy I was talking to likes the Wood cams for power, he was just advising me of what to expect. I appreciated his honesty. I can tell you after receiving my Wood air filter upgrade for my 58mmTB and dealing with Terry and Bob, they are first class people and the filter upgrade is awesome.
I did my "homework" when I first was going to upgrade cams. The 555 gives you the best HP/TQ for a stock motor, IMO. The "noise" was no louder than stock. I put 14K on them before pulling them out to do a total rebuild and go to gear drive. They showed no signs of wear. I went with Woods 7h cams in the new build...........(the closest to his 555's).
