noise coming from rocker boxes???

BUMP time
I am chasing a similar noise & have been awaiting others outcome with similar problems.
Mine started in stock form, 09 Ultra whilst traveling a 4500mile trip.Knocking started lightly & has progressed to a solid hollow sounding metal rap.
Changed cams, lifters, pushrods etc on return....no difference.
Had a few so called experts listen & test ride with nothing positive to come out of it, in regards to identifying the damn noise.
Primary has been apart & just now checking rockers etc......found nothing at all other than a crook tensioner, but put in new gear drives now.
New 551G S&S cams are the greatest single upgrade done yet, but the knocking noise is just getting louder
Any thoughts welcome, before the frustration kills me

rear rockerbox noise
i have 2007 softail std , with a stethoscope you hear the rattle as it decelerates from blipping the throttle. my pushrod will manually spin when at rest but you can feel a tight spot
im thinking the rocker bushings/bearings. with 43,000 miles im dissapointed at the weak engineering that has these twin cams faultering, cam chain tensioners, etc,
yeah,i feel like a shovelhead right now

I went through this. I changed lifters, and replaced pushrods with adjustables, then pulled and installed new rocker arm shafts, then finally figured out it was piston slap. It started about 70k but I didn't figure It out until 96, at which time I did the whole top end with the 95" kit, heads, cams, bla bla. The skirts of those piston were screwed, and I got the rattle at about that 2k up you speak of. How many miles on yours?
