Default Loose handle bars?

I was pushing my EGC in the garage and noted the handle bars moving up as I pushed the bike. I know they are rubber mounted but does the rubber groments ever ware out? The handle bar nuts are tight.

Sure, rubber does lose integrity. If the clamp nuts are tight, your only option by elimination is the rubber mounts.

A buddy of mine just picked up a new Electra Glide Limited, and his did that. Something must have been missed in the set up.

How much did they move, & were you pushing on a level surface, or up hill? Level surface & the bars move 3 or 4 inches, you got a problem. Up hill & the bars move .5 or 1 inch, not a problem.

Replace them with poly bushings. Problem solved.

the bars are supposed to move- that's how the vibrations are absorbed.

controls on a motorcycle are also meant to move rather than dig in if they hit something

that is why the handlebars shouldn't be used to tie down the bike, the bars can rotate bashing the controls into the tank- or loosening the straps and allowing the bike to move

you can replace the bushings if worn ( and I have bushings over 20 years old that work fine)-- you can use poly ( harder) bushings, but tuning out vibrations which are transmitted to and numb your hands, is more difficult.
esp. on models where the bushings are not easily accessible

- sometimes the softer rubber is better

if the clamp is loose, you can access by remove the lower dash panel and tightening the 2 closer bolts

Ok, I got it off. Since I have an 2001 EGC it's a little different. I had to put key in depress the node under switch and turn key passed lock and rotate to ACC and it pops out. Checked both, the handle bar (4) Allen screws and the two nuts for the risers and all are tight. When I push forward on the handle bars it moves about an 1 1/2-2 inches. That's probably normal I hope. By-the-way, mine has no spring like shown in the video.
