Default Back firing

Just got done installing dresser duals rinehart slip ons pcv and se heavy breather, just took it for a short run and she backfired when i shifted, its about 35 degrees out but i wouldnt think that should matter.I got my pcv from fuel moto mapped with my set up so i doubt that is an issue.Could it be an exhaust leak and if so how can i tell?

Here is what I posted on another thread:

It may be an exhaust leak. Here is a way to find it:

Get a 2-3 ft piece of plastic hose (water hose or smaller diameter clear hose from home depot). Put one end by your ear. Move the other end all around the exhaust joints/connections while the engine is running. You will hear the difference where there is a leak.

It is my experience that if you follow the manual instructions on how to install the exhaust, you have a pretty good chance of not having an exhaust leak. I just installed my exhaust after the 255 cam upgrade and it is leak-free.

Some other items... Do not re-use exhaust gaskets or clamps (they tend to become oval if over tightened). Use a bead of high temp RTV Silicon on the inside of the mufflers before installing them on the headers (to seal better, this is from the Rinehart manual). Use a tube spreader (cheap from Harbor Freight, medium size) to expand header/muffler end points that have the cuts.

Good luck.

you may be able to use the spreader on the clamps to make them round- but...

the torca clamps are considered "one-use" as they do deform when torqued.

i find that by torquing a new clamp to the lower end of the range, i may be able to get a couple of uses out of it.

But the clamps put on at the factory are usually deformed beyond use.

SOME manufacturers say no sealant- i've done it, no problems

a backfire or a "lean pop" on deceleration?

Big difference

Loading the exhaust up with fuel and having it fire off while under power, or pop pop pop while letting off the throttle?

Backfire in the pipes or out the air cleaner?

One backfire when you shifted (once), or was it constantly backfiring when shifting...??
