11 SG, VH twin slash and de-catted stock pipe. It has popping at decel and between shifts and it seems to be getting a little worse with time. It still has the stock ECM cal, any thoughts on possible issues? Maybe an exhaust leak?
Any help is appreciated.
It may be an exhaust leak. Here is a way to find it:
Get a 2-3 ft piece of plastic hose (water hose or smaller diameter clear hose from home depot). Put one end by your ear. Move the other end all around the exhaust joints/connections while the engine is running. You will hear the difference where there is a leak.
It is my experience that if you follow the manual instructions on how to install the exhaust, you have a pretty good chance of not having an exhaust leak. I just installed my exhaust after the 255 cam upgrade and it is leak-free.
Some other items... Do not re-use exhaust gaskets or clamps (they tend to become oval if over tightened). Use a bead of high temp RTV Silicon on the inside of the mufflers before installing them on the headers (to seal better, this is from the Rinehart manual). Use a tube spreader (cheap from Harbor Freight, medium size) to expand header/muffler end points that have the cuts.
Boom23: yeah you are probably right on the money, was fiddling with the clamps (re-used) today and sure enough the crossover is not clamping solid. I will get new clamps and gaskets when I put in my SE 255's in the coming couple weeks.
Thx for the input.
It may just be your bike. Mine was the same way when I put on the American Custom slip-ons without any baffles in them. I still have my CAT though. I put their "mid rumble" baffles in them and the decel popping stopped completely, and the bike ran much better. Gotta have some back pressure and the CAT wasn't enough apparently. In my opinion, the only option for my situation, or yours, may be a tune even if it's just a simple reflash by the dealer.
If you have de-catted your pipe you have changed the way your bike is also tuning itself while you ride it. You may need to look into getting a tuner or having it tuned on the dyno.

+1 on basically what others have said. When you de-catted your header pipe, you freed up the air restriction caused by the cat. Your letting in more air into the system without the corresponding addition of fuel by changing up your AFR, so what was a lean situation to begin with is now even more lean.
You already have the V&H twin slashes....if it were me I would go ahead and change the a/c over to something like an Arlen Ness Big Sucker or SE high flow a/c and and get yourself some kind of tuning device (Power Commander, Power Vision, SERT, TTS, etc) with a map designed for your set-up. Our friends at FuelMoto can help you out with this or there are lots of other sources as well. Once you get the tuning device you can also have the bike dyno'd if you want to dial it in exactly, but I think you will find that a custom map from someone like a FuelMoto will get you 90% of the way there without the added expense of a dyno tune.
I Have De-Catted several pipes now, here is the story of mine and my brother-in-laws save you from dropping $150.00 or more for remap. I decatted and debaffled the mufflers on my brother in laws bike first (he got his first) sounded great ran fine no popping on decel. so when I got mine 2 days after bringing it home I decatted the pipe I spent "SMART" money Screaming Eagle slip ons (Dumb Move They sucked) so I took it down the road Shift POW WTF decel popping, went to dealer "oh you need a Remap" OK here is $150.00 pick up bike take off Shift POW WTF long story short changed Exhaust gaskets no more POW no more WTF no more decel pop HUH $14.00 would have fixed it. Take it as you will but this is my experience.
