Yesterday I rode my Limited to my son's house and parked in the driveway. Driveway is fairly steep, so when I went to leave, I had the ignition on, but I just pulled in the clutch and slowly backed down to the street. I had only moved a foot or two, and I heard what I thought was a pop, then a sizzle and saw smoke. It came from behind the air cleaner assembly.
Once I got down on level ground, I started the bike, checked all the gauges, lights, etc. Everything worked fine, and I rode it 25 miles to home with no problems.
I didn't have time to remove the air cleaner and look around to see if there was obvious damage. Anybody have any idea what might have happened?
The engine was cold, it had been sitting in my son's driveway for 4 hours or so and it was only 75° out at the time.
I was thinking since the ignition and fuel pump were on, I rolled back a little bit, released the clutch lever in 1st gear causing the engine to turn over a little and must have ignited some unburned fuel. That was my initial thought, although I didn't know if it was possible with a FI bike. The smoke I saw was coming from within the air cleaner, which had the appearance of coming from behind the air cleaner assembly.
