Default Need real world advice

I thought I would pick you guy's brains and try to get an answer to my question. I have a 2011 ultra limited and would like to lower the rear end...but i dont want to lose the air ajustability.I thought I might try a set of street glide shocks. but I always ride 2 up and loaded so i dont want to be bottming out... Have anybody out there tried this combo and what were were the results. please advise

I use the SG shocks on my 09 FLHTC.

They are fine. solo ( 230#) , and tourpak detached, I run 7 PSI.

the ride IS harsher as you loose about 30% of the shock travel with the short shocks.

when i tour, the stock shocks go back on and i tune for a floaty cadillac ride.

a set of 09+ ( the 09+ version is valved differently than the earlier version) will run about $230 from an online discount dealer.

Takes offs from other riders about $125.

reduced clearance is not much of an issue, however IF you have V&H powerduals the cover on the X pipe will hit before the floor boards- and check that the clamp on the crossover is oriented so that the extra bolt threads are not hanging down

You'll need to be cautious after lowering. Especially if you ride 2-up. Those speed pumps and unexpected high spot in the road can play havoc on the bottom side. It also will make it easier to drag the footboards.

bottoming out will eat the taillight wires under the fender.so for 2 up pump those 12 inters up,they will ride harsh.

I put the lowered rear shocks on the bike right off the bat and didn't like them. Harsh and bottoming out solo and 2-up. After 8K replaced them with progressive 940 and never looked back

IMHO go to 12.5" progressive 412 shocks. They will lower the bike and handle the job of two up touring. You will still be able to dial them back for one up local riding. Depending on what you weigh you might need heavy duty springs on them.

I'd say you are right on the borderline of needing HD springs. If you go heavy duty you can dial them back to the softest setting. And if you go regular duty you will have to jack them all the way up to handle the load. I would probably go HD. BTW that's what I ran on mine. Im 280 and my Wife is 140. I was real happy with the heavy springs. I ran them all the time set on the medium setting.

440's....you wont bottom out and you won't hyper extend on the upswing.
Are you trying to get your feet closer to the ground?

yes feet on the ground... 5' 7" 32 inch inseams ...I figure I need about 3/4" to be flat footed...I measured this by putting 1x4's under my feet while sitting on the bike
