Sorry if the story sounds off to some, I never said I was stock, and as I said the V-Max did pull me pretty good but only after we were pegged at 120, through 3 gears and into 4th I stayed ahead of him, I thought that was pretty impressive.
Now as for the Warrior, not even close, I totally smoked him through all 6 gears. my dyno charts are posted in the dyno section for baggers, and that's the chart before Friday we made a few more changes and picked up a few more ponies.
I'm not asking anyone to believe the story, but it can be verified very easy. There's lots of South Louisiana people on the forum, and I'm not very hard to reach
HarleyPaw,
Like I said before, I was not there and I would never say it can't happen. It's just hard to believe. Having been an extreme rider of sport bikes since I was in my late teens I have ran some of the most modified Harley (not baggers) in this area. This was most of the time on a damn near stock Honda cbr600f3. I would smoke these guys then talk with them afterwards about their motor builds. Some had thousands invested in thier motors. I could never understand why they would want to run a Jap bike.
If I were to do a motorbuild on my HDI would certainly ask either Bryan TTM or someone like yourself for advice on engine builds. But I would not compare how fast my bike is to a Jap bike. I would want to run another HD even a another bagger to see how much I really gained. Apples to apples. Then I would really know how much faster my bike is.
With that said I see a real trend in the hotrod bagger in this area. One thing people need to understand is these bikes were never designed to be a performance machine. They were designed to be cruisers, that's why I bought one. I spent a lot of time cheating death on my rockets. Croch rockets are designed around performance and for racing. The first time I took my SG up to about 100 in felt very unstable, heavy in corners, even unstable in straight aways. Not the bike I would chose to drag with. The bike wobbles at high speed, and let me tell you having been down on the track do to a high speed wobble (also known as head shake or tank slapper), this is not a desirable situation.
The frame design on a HD is almost all wrong for a drag bike (except for their designed drag bike). A rubber mounted motor causes to much resonation in the frame. The swing arm which has rubber bushings causes the swing arm to move opposite of the frame. I just caution anyone who turns these bikes in drag bikes. I've seen this happen on the track, it's very ugly to watch sometimes. If you want a drag bike I think a bagger is the wrong choice, you can always make the motor capable, but if the bike is not then there wil be problems. Congrats on your win, Merry Christmas, and ride safe my friend.
10-4 on Baggers as Crusiers...thats what makes them great.....no doubt the big HD V-twin is capable of producing amazing tourque and HP but that power can easily surpass the rest the machines capability...................a head shake is a scary thing
For those that follow the AMA Prostar Drag circuit you should know that the rice burning Yammy Warrior has owned the Hot Rod Crusier Class for about 5 years and stilll owns the record of 9.161 seconds at 145.30 mph, set in 2004 at Gainesville....Patrick Racing built that machine and those guys build a mean HD motor as well
I'll only say this, the 1/4 numbers that you see in mag's for the V-Max and for that matter most superbikes can only be gotten by a pro! My younger Brother had a V-Max andcould ride the heck out of it but could never get the numbers they claimed that Peewee Gleason got at the dragstrip. He was bummed [>:]I just told him the mag's pick the best day, best rider, and tune on it till they get that one great shot down the strip, presto the magic #'s that everyone claims there bike will do. That V-Max was fast but it could be beat or stayed close to, I mean it is a high winder not a lot of TQ down low, HP's was all TQ on the bottom and good horsepower to, a 10 mph roll-on would have played right into HP's hand I could see the harley jumping the hell out of that V-Max, shoot most of these young bucks on the superbikes only know how to blow the tire off or wheelie and we all know that! (Granted some can ride the wheels off of a bike but not many) So I could belive it and in fact do BELIVE IT![sm=deal.gif] Good job HarleyPaw! I love it, but be Careful Bro!!!
I'm at the Grandkids house for Christmas, so haven't had a lot of time to check in since the post. The rest of the story was a little long, and I don't like to type very much. The Warrior rider happens to be the son of a very good friend of mine, I didn't know that at the time, the son is down from FL. where he's station in the Navy. The Warrior is an 07 model with only pipes and PCIII mods, We left the bar and he and I rode the rest of the day making several other bars, later in the day he's telling me some performance items that his father has gotten him for Christmas, he's not much on wrenching so he ask if I would help install these items, I know nothing about a Yamaha, but always willing to help. All this to say the Warrior rider will be at my home shop on Wednesday around noon to do this work, and would love for anyone in the area to stop by, I'll buy the beer, so they can hear the story from the horses mouth, and come along for the re-match after a few mods.
One of the things a lot of people over look is the gears, with the gears I run another bike completly equal in Hp/Tq will not run close.
HarleyPaw,Good one! the response posts kept me smiling through them all.I have had a few brow beatings on my posts. It is the same for me hear in the NorthEast, with my Baggers.Half the fun of playing with the boys is hearing them say when the smoke clears,What in H_ _ _ have you got in that thing.Today we can have anything we want,if we are willing to wait.
Harely paw....if your gonna wrench on the rice there is a very active forum dedicated to the Warrior that you may want to check out for tips and tricks on mods....those guys have done every mod you can think of to the Warrior.....http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/
Just found some spec on the warroior . this may sound strang but the yamaha ,victorys and most metric bikes are not over powered stock . the 2000 cc are more yes here is a link.https://www.hdforums.com/
