Default How to decrease buffeting from gas tank

I pulled the trigger on a new ultra limited and noticed more wind coming from around the tank than my 08 roadking. Seems like it doesn't matter if the lowers are opened or closed or if the faring deflectors are at an angle or not. I did bolt on a fork baffle and not much improved. Help! FT

I get fast moving air up between the front of the tank and the triple tree on my RKC with fairing but it goes straight up and doesn't affect me any. I have lowers(closed), fork baffle, and chrome fork deflectors. Maybe try a recurve windshield as I use one of those also, have a large dead space of air behind it. Only time I get wind in the face or body is if there is a good crosswind going.

Good advice. A well designed windshield will help a great deal. I use a national cycle Vstream. I've had them on other bikes and they really work well on that air that you described. Check em out here:

if you get rain spray coming up, stretch a bungee across the mirror stalks and hang a rag.

other wise it's air management.

using the fairing mount deflectors to channel at AT you, will reduce the amount of uncontrolled air coming up from below the tank or eddying from above and sides.

the fairing punches through the air and creates a big low pressure zone- the bigger the windscreen the bigger the hole, the more pressure differential

how the air fills that hole can be managed somewhat

i would think a recurve would suck even more air from under the trees,it would create an even lower pressure behind it pulling in more air from under.

There is a piece that is available that mounts under the faring above the fender that used to be a stock piece. It is curved to push the air down at the voltage regulator. I will get the part number and post it later.

You will need the wind deflectors that mount on the outside of the forks if you want any relief from the wind that comes from under the fairing and over the tank.

The part number is

58520-79TC

A friend of mine ordered one so I cannot say how well it works yet.

The air baffle cuts down on some of the air coming up in front of the tank but does not solve the problem. I installed the fork baffle and fairing wind deflectors last Saturday. I dont mind the slight buffeting to my head, I hate the air that comes up around the tank and fills my shirt or jacket up like a balloon.

I did the lowered LRS 9 inch with re-curve and it helped out some. I just can't see shelling out 160.00 if that's not going to help. I don't mind spending it but the trial and error thing gets expensive. FT
