Listen....go get the o-ring. Get a clean oil drain pan and take the plug out. Let all the oil run into the pan. Who cares right?

It's clean pan, just pour the oil back in. No biggie.

If you leave the bike on the jiffy stand it will probably only drain about 1/2 of the oil into the container.

Harbor Freight has an "O" ring kit for cheap. I use that and teflon tape. Never had a leak.

I've used the quick thumb plug method befor, no problem, minimal loss. An extra set of hands to clean the plug and put on a new o ring wouldn't hurt. As mentioned already, this is not a thread tape/sealant application, it will seal fine on a new o ring. Definately check those trans exhaust hanger bolts before you start on the oil plug.

When I got an o ring from the dealer it was 80c, I wouldn't do teflon tape as it introduces possible debris to the sump.

I always replace o rings when any drain plug is removed that has them... & no on the tape... if any of it comes lose it can clog oil passages.. if you fell like appling something use the tefflon paste..but as stated the o ring really does the sealing..

The Teflon Tape isn't gonna clog anything. Yea, maybe if you use the whole roll and stuff it inside the hole it might

Just apply a couple turns being careful to keep it on the threads. You shouldn't need the Tape, but sometimes o-rings don't seal properly, or tear, or whatever.

The Tape is good insurance, and as long as it is applied correctly, it won't hurt a thing.

Make sure when you put plug back in to put some oil on the oring or it will tear causing it to leak
