Your story is so typical and this is why soooooo many of us do our own services.
I have had quite a few bikes over my time and have never had this kind of issue. I have only gone to this shop since I bought my Ultra. I won't return there that is for sure. I may look into doing the oil changes and some simple things, but the 10K,15K etc. services? Do you need special tools and such to do that stuff?
- paying the dealer to do anything to your bike is always a costly risk!
- They should have fixed the problem at their expense, since you already paid them!
- Anytime you see pipe dope on a strait thread, it is proof that they have no idea what they are doing!
- You now have a receipt for an oil change, and a fix to said oil change, they owe you a refund on at least one of them!
I now have hope again My 09 UC leaves a few drops when I park it from the bottom of the primary by the lowest outer cover bolt, run's there from up under the bike somewhere. On here I was advised to silicone the electical plug at the front of the engine case which I did and it still leaked....My next suspicion was the inner primary seal, which is a a lot of work for just a small leak....I didn't know about these exhaust bolts by the tranny cover being a common leak?? I will look at that tomorrow to see if that is were the leak is coming from. More to follow, thanks.
Are you sure its actually from the oil drain plug? The exhaust bracket bolts at the bottom of the transmission side cover are well documented to come loose and allow transmission lubricant to leak out. This fluid will run down, along the front of the oil pan, and sometimes drip off of the corner of the oil pan near the oil pan plug. Check it out just to make sure you are on the right track.

Yes, it is very common for the exhaust bolts to leak. Ask me how I know.
Are you guys wiping oil on the o-ring prior to install?
If not then when removing the plug at 3k mi., it will seize to the metal and tear.
(or the "jiffy lube" peps are over tightening the plug, either usually tears the o-ring)
I keep a full set of O rings on hand for oil changes and the like. No one will care about how your bike is serviced more then YOU. I don't trust anyone to work on my stuff. Not even for an oil change on the cage. To many idiots out there. Even the ones with the great reputation will let you down sooner or later.
$7.72 for 100 Viton O rings, size 013, at McMaster Carr, thats $0.0772 each. I would say a new O ring everytime you change your oil would be cheap insurance, at less than 8 cents.
That's what I do, and no way on the teflon tape, not a good idea
