Default Saw a Bike Go Down Today

I was on I-95 in heavy traffic and was watching two bikes traveling with traffic. One bike was slightly ahead of the other by a car or two. The back bike was trying to catch up when he changed lanes using only his mirrors. He swerve into the outer lane and hit the side of a boat trailer. Within less than a second he was down...

He was thrown from the bike onto the pavement. His head and shoulder hit first, he rolled a few times, and immediately jumped up and ran to the shoulder of the roadway. He survived, but was injured.

The traffic was heavy, but everyone in the cars did well to avoid him and the bike. Everyone stopped and assisted him. There is always a nurse who stops.

If it was not for the helmet, he would be dead, no doubt. His head hit hard.

I hate seeing stuff like that. Hopefully he will be ok. Not a great idea to get up and move around right after a blow to the head, helmet or not. Glad to see there are still some good people out there that stopped to help him.

Agree, however if it had been me, on any interstate, and if I could get up and get out of the road I probably would. Beats getting run the hell over by other vehicles.

What kind of helmet was he wearing? I am guessing it wasn't the typical skid-lid?

or maybe with out it he would have heard or peripherally seen the boat trailer beside him.

2 sides.

I have been in the situation where I heard a problem that I could not see.

Hope the Rider today comes through alright

It could happen to any of us. That is why I ride like an ol timer. Because I am. In the old days I took my chances more recklessly you could say. And still do at times. Just not as much. By the grace of God and because I would rather ride a long time I never pushed it over the limit. Gotta be careful out there all the time. Pray the rider comes though with minimal damage. OLD 96.

I remember the last time I changed lanes without looking over my shoulder first- it was about a month ago.
Nothing bad happened, it was an empty stretch of highway, but I remember because I thought to myself "That was stupid". Its kind of important to look where you're going, whether it's forward, backward or sideways.
Glad the guy wasn't killed.

I have done that too. Gets harder to turn those old stiff muscles every year, but you got to force yourself. I always think "Failure is not an option, on lane changes"

Many times, you don't have the time to turn your head, or by the time you do you will be hit. Turning your head is not always the best thing to do.
You really need good mirrors.
