I recently installed a set of the mid-frame heat deflectors on my StreetGlide.
No doubt the heat is still there but now its no longer on my calf or leg.
These really do help!

+1 for heat deflectors. Nothing stops the engine heat 100%, but they help. I mean, with a 180-240 degree engine between your legs, it's tuff to not feel some heat sitting at a light in the summer regardless of what tricks we do.
Wearing jeans helps. I am amazed when I see guys wearing shorts on their bikes in the summer because it's hot. Having the heat radiate directly on your leg... no thanks.
Never mind the safety aspect.
