Default Ok, how bad did I screw up??

Had to install a new Fairing Bracket. Not the one on the speaker but the actual fairing bracket itself. Putting everything back together I stripped one of the bolt holes for the radio. In other words the radio now only has one bolt holding in it to the left side of the bracket. How bad is it? Can I run it like that?

Can you tap it out and put a larger screw in it? That would be my try.

Well I think it could be prone to vibration now.

What size is the bolt?

Agree w/flhtupser...if you don't have a "tap & die" set - time to head to sears & get one. Drill it out, re-thread & insert new screw - not hard at all.

Don't know the size at this moment I noticed there was a problem when everything started turning. The bolt and the ring in the radio. The radio appears to have some type washer attached to the threads and everything it turning.

This is only my opinion so take it for what its worth. I just replace my stock radio with a new one. If it were me, I would put the 3 screw in it, ride the bike and see if you notice any vibrations etc. If youre like me, and read this forum very often, you will be talked into buying a new radio in no time. I started off reading the threads about radio upgrades and thought, no way, I don't need that. Now I have a new radio, amp, and speakers. LOL

I took a couple of pics of the mounting screws for the stereo when I was in there making some other mods.
Standing in front of the bike, here is the right side...the most difficult side to get to:

Here is the left side which was easier to get to:

Dont know which side is stripped in your case, but I would try to install some kind of replacement bolt. Three might hold it OK, but I would be concerned that it would cause issues long-term.

Whatever you do you don't want to get metal chips inside the radio. From your description it doesn't sound like the threads are stripped.
Is there some type of riv-nut in the radio? You may be able to reset it so it doesn't spin.

Nice pics Joe. Those are riv-nuts, you may be able to tighten it up or get replacements from McMaster-Carr.
There is a special tool for installing them but save your cash. You can set then with a bolt, nut, washer and a couple wrenches.

I think they are 1/4 x 20 and I understand that they are a real PITA to get to and to get started on re-install. Sounds to me like you may have just cross theaded it a bit and broke that nut/insert in the radio free. You will probably need to remove the radio again to fix. Me personally I would run with the three bolts. that radio fits so snug in the fairing and in the brackets. But Like others have said don't want metal in the radio itself.
