I used teflon tape sealant. Did the job when the motor was cold (thicker oil). Was quick to shove adapter in and lost maybe 1/2 OZ of oil. Have 15,000 miles since and not 1 drop of oil leak. This is 3rd one I've done. Learned to wire gage before installing as pointed out earlier.
No need. It is a pipe-thread fitting and there is no pressure, so leaking shouldn't ever be a problem. With the HD OTG you could put Teflon tape or other sealant on the adapter if you wanted, as the sender is grounded independently (separate wire). Other types like the McEwan gauge may ground at the sender and for those I would not use sealant, as it may impede the ground connection. Also, if you use sealant, do so sparingly, as you don't want any loose Teflon tape or other foreign matter floating around in your oil lines. Bottom line: IMO, don't use it.
Just finished the install in my Ultra Ltd. Guage and sensor working fine. I also have the HD digital temp dipstick. The dipstick temp and the oil pan sensor read very close to each other, within about 5 degrees. That's close enough.

Do current kits have a harness or adapter to plug the gauge (ground and 12V) into the existing ATG harness on the bike? Mine didn't and I needed to fabricate one.
